One of Bavaria's contemporary or Cruiser range, the C42 was introduced in 2020. It is quite an advance on earlier Bavarian models of similar size, with wider beam, longer waterline, higher topsides and more pronounced chines, all of which gives charterers a stable platform under sail and more space below. In 2021 the French Voile magazine named the Bavaria C42 European Yacht of the Year in the ‘family cruiser’ category.
The latest Bavaria Cruisers, their hulls distinctive with 'V' shape and prominent chines, provide more space than other monohulls of equivalent size, both on deck and below. That's what makes them so good for chartering if you're looking for a monohull sailboat to holday aboard.
With its better use of traditional size constraints, the Bavaria C42, like its sister boats, has a big, wide roomy cockpit where everyone can find a comfortable spot while sailing or enjoying a meal at the cockpit table. This area is enhanced by the drop-down swimming / boarding platform when anchored or tied up. The twin helm stations are set right back aft with winches alongside, all controls set up for easy sailing by two people. There's also a pair of winches on the cabin top for complete sail management from the cockpit.
Forward of the mast there's lots of room to enjoy the sailing or simply relax in the sun, and the side decks are nice and wide for movement fore and aft.
Below deck the benefits of hull shape become clear, with bigger stern and forward cabins and a wide, bright, airy saloon with two-metre headroom for maximum crew comfort. The fold-out table in the saloon easily seats eight people. Naturally, the galley and small office area are fully fitted out with all the fixtures and equipment needed for modern life on board, even when on vacation!

Rating: 5 / 5We really enjoyed Turkey as a destination. The people are fantastic and very rewarding to get to know, particularly when you can get off the main tourist locations. Plenty of variety in options to stay overnight, whether it is small local towns, restaurants in bays, or finding a beautiful bay with a reasonable chance of having it all to yourself - probably dependant on the time of year.
Time of year was a very pleasant surprise. The weather was good the whole time we were there. We expected it maybe a little on the cold side on the water given it was October/November. But in truth it felt like the PERFECT time to be there based on the weather we had for the 2 weeks. Any hotter would have been hotter than ideal, and any colder and swimming etc would not have been nice. It was still pretty busy, but I think there were signs of things winding down for the season. I think the week we went out, the operator said it was their busiest week of the season with all boats out. Though some places were winding down with restaurants in the final week / weeks before the end of the season etc.
The operator went the extra mile to help with recommendation for itinerary given it was our first time. When we had minor breakdowns (ie the auto pilot stopped working), that I would have thought would be fixed after our return, they were VERY keen to come out and meet us for repair, which they did.
